"Cumbria Care has been awarded Gold Certification for Dementia-Friendly design by the Dementia Service Development Centre at Stirling University for the Beckside Unit at Elmhurst Care Home in Ulverston.
As part of promoting dignity and care for service users, Cumbria Care has installed a wireless nursecall system from Courtney Thorne. Discussions between both parties took place and agreed a person-centred system that has been adapted by Courtney Thorne specifically to meet the needs of the people we support at the Beckside unit. The system includes enuresis monitoring as well as alerts should service users get out of bed during the night. In such an event, a small bedside light is also triggered to allow staff to calmly and quietly help the resident back to bed with the minimum of fuss.
Another key feature of the system is the in-built call-logging which provides a detailed record of calls (time/date/type of call, which room and response time) all of which means that the management team have clear information to help manage staff performance and levels of care. The same information also provides a basis for discussions with families of residents about the number and types of calls and how quickly they are being answered.
The staff at Beckside have been trained by Courtney Thorne and have adapted to the new system well - and they appreciate simple benefits in maintaining and respecting personal dignity such as no longer having to put their hands under the covers every few hours to check for wetness - the system tells them when the bed needs to be changed thus reducing the length of time someone lies in a wet bed.
Support has been provided as necessary during the initial set-up and the commitment of both Courtney Thorne and Cumbria Care has ensured a successful installation. Courtney Thorne is delighted to have played our small part in this outstanding achievement.
Both parties hope that the experience gained and the specific modifications made to address the needs of individual service users can be shared with other providers to support the growing number of homes caring for people with dementia."

"Having recently had a wireless nursecall system installed by your company in our care home, I am writing to express my appreciation of such an exceptional service. From my initial contact through to the installation and the aftersales care we have enjoyed, I can say that I have continually been impressed by the professional, efficient and friendly service we have received. The system has already proven invaluable in reducing the noise of calls within the home and offering such simple to use comprehensive data to our Manager. I'm delighted that staff and residents have been very impressed with its features, and have experienced a range of improvements in the care that they can deliver or receive. In my experience, finding an excellent quality product, competitively priced and backed up by such superb customer service is a rarity, I would therefore not hesitate to recommend you to other care providers, thankyou."
