Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice

Moggerhanger, Bedfordshire

Installed fast to maintain the highest level of patient safety and comfort

Sue Ryder is a prominent healthcare charity operating on a national level, specializing in hospice and neurological care for individuals confronted with daunting, life-altering diagnoses. One of their notable establishments is the Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice, located in the picturesque village of Moggerhanger in Bedfordshire. This hospice offers 15 beds and delivers residential services to individuals in the advanced stages of progressive conditions, providing them with compassionate end-of-life care.

Responsiveness from nursing staff is essential in a hospice environment to ensure patient comfort and safety. A reliable nurse call system is crucial in achieving this goal. When the old nurse call system at the hospice began to fail, Andrew Williams, the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, took immediate action to find a dependable care technology provider. He approached Courtney Thorne to seek assistance in resolving the issue.

Ian Trott, the Sales Consultant from Courtney Thorne, recognized the urgency of the situation and promptly identified an affordable and efficient solution for the Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice. The installation of the Courtney Thorne nurse call system was completed within a matter of days, ensuring that the hospice could uphold the highest standards of patient safety and comfort.

I really like the new nurse call screens - we can turn the volume down at night and the nurse call logging feature is very useful." Andrew Williams, Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

Designed to grow in line with the hospice’s needs

The selected nurse call system is equipped with wireless connectivity, allowing patients to wear lightweight neck pendants while they are mobile. Additionally, the hospice opted to install infrared triggers specifically designed to address the issue of residents who may wander unnoticed and be at risk of falls and other accidents.

The flexibility of the wireless nurse call system to expand and adapt to the hospice’s evolving needs was one of the primary factors that led to the selection of Courtney Thorne’s nurse call system.

“Our mission is to design, develop and deliver technology that protects and improves the lives of people who require care,” explained Ian. “I’m very pleased we were able to provide an instant solution for Andy and his amazing colleagues who provide such wonderful care for their residents.”
