At Courtney Thorne, we’re pleased to offer free recycling on all of our old equipment & batteries. Recycle your old nurse call systems with us!

Recycle your old Courtney Thorne products

In an industry as swiftly-evolving as the healthcare sector, old and obsolete healthcare technology should always make way for the new where possible. However, that doesn’t mean that older pieces of tech should simply be discarded without care. That’s why, at Courtney Thorne, we are pleased to offer free recycling on all of our old equipment and batteries, as part of our strong commitment towards a greener future.

Which items can be recycled?

Older pieces of electrical equipment and used up batteries, such as those purchased as part of one of our nurse call systems, need to be recycled – these items are marked with a clear symbol, a crossed-out wheelie bin, as shown below. We would strongly encourage all of our partners to dispose of these items properly and recycle them, and to not throw them away in your bin (this includes all items marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol).

As well as this, any obsolete or expired equipment and batteries bought as part of one of our systems can also be safely returned to our Service department for responsible disposal. Simply get in touch with the team at Courtney Thorne to arrange the return of these products, and we will dispose of them for you.

Product Recycling FAQs

  • What are WEEE Regulations?

WEEE, an acronym for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, are a set of government regulations in the UK that state that any business that manufactures, imports, or sells electricals must also finance their collection, treatment, and recycling. The aforementioned crossed out wheelie-bin symbol that appears on our electrical products is representative of these regulations.

  • What recycling symbol should I be looking out for?

The recycling symbol that is relevant to our products and whether you should be recycling them or not, is the aforementioned crossed-out wheelie bin (as pictured above). This specific symbol is what is used for electronics and batteries, and so any products that have this symbol on them need to be disposed of in the appropriate way.

It should be noted that there are two versions of the symbol in existence, one with a solid black bar underneath, and one without. When the black bar is present on this symbol, it means that the product was manufactured after August 2005, and that the maker must offer a method to take full full responsibility for the product’s recycling.

  • How should I dispose of these old electronics and batteries?

The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol means an electrical item must never go in your normal household rubbish bin. Instead, these products must be recycled by taking them either to a local recycling center, or by using a retailer’s own take-back programme – which is something that we offer here at Courtney Thorne. You may also want to check the services of your local council, as some do also offer local kerbside collections for things like electronics and batteries.
