Spotlight on Carl Start – Director at Econogard Alarm Solutions
This month we have been in conversation with Carl Start, Director at Econogard Alarm Solutions. Econogard Alarm Solutions are a Courtney Thorne Gold Partner. Established over 40 years ago in Cambridge, they are a leading specialist in the design, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of safety systems such as fire alarm, nurse call and access control systems.
How long have you been with Econogard Alarm Solutions?
I joined Econogard Alarm Solutions aged 17, when the company was still in its infancy. Apart from a brief interlude to run my own business, I have remained here ever since.
Could you explain a little bit about your role?
I have had a wide range of roles and responsibilities within the company, beginning my career as an engineer, before moving into sales. In 2006 I became a Company Director and am now focused on customer relations and business development.
What makes Econogard stand out from the crowd?
We know all care settings are unique, and what will work in one will not necessarily work in another. Consider us your problem solvers. We take time to understand the issues you are trying to overcome and then develop a bespoke solution. Our ability to integrate fire, access control and nurse call systems has always been our USP. For decades we have been able to analyse incumbent systems and fully integrate them, so that they work in unison and feed into a single console or mobile device.
What changes in health and care technology have you seen over the past 40 years?
With rapid developments in technology, there have been major advancements in nurse call systems over the years. Working closely with Courtney Thorne we have been able to enhance the development and integration of these systems. For example, we can now monitor Courtney Thorne systems remotely, reducing engineers’ time on site and thus saving costs. This capability was invaluable during the COVID pandemic when access to care homes was severely restricted. Assisted technology aids are non-intrusive to residents and help maintain their dignity, in addition to saving time and enabling care staff to be more efficient.
